normandy – embarkation gis 3
Reinforcements from the 4th Infantry Division and the 101st Airborne Division stand on a LCT transporting them to “Utah” beach on the afternoon of June 6, 1944. The piece of equipment that men on the right are looking down upon is a T91E3/M63 Antiaircraft Mount for the Browning M2HB .50-caliber Machine Gun. (NARA 80-G-59422)
An Explanation
“Hermes” is the Greek patron God of writers (among other things). “Chindit” is an English corruption of the Burmese word Chinthe, describing a mythical lion which became the symbol of a British-Allied special forces group during the Second World War.
